All About Reading is a comprehensive curriculum with four levels that relies on mastery of concepts not grade levels. The program teaches phonics, decoding, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension. This program uses the Orton-Gillingham approach which is a multisensory, sequential way of teaching literacy to students who struggle (like those with dyslexia).
It is scripted - telling you exactly what to say - and it’s an open and go programs that make teaching simple for parents. Lessons take about 20 minutes a day.
The entire program is backed by a one year guarantee for a refund and the company offers lifetime support to all customers.
All About Reading is part of All About Learning Press - which focuses on two major areas in the language arts - spelling and reading.

Bland
I heard so many good things about All About Reading and it is laid out very simply to follow. It was just so bland and so “school” my kids just tuned it out. I have two special needs learners and I was so hopeful that this program would work for us but it just didn’t interest my kids enough to make them try. It now collects dust.

So far I have used levels 1-3 with my son and he is a very strong reader. He loves the fact that every other day is story day. For me it’s great because it reviews the lesson from the day before and puts into practice the concept learned.
I find the lessons can be a bit long.
For us, we only need to purchase the consumables, so it’s not that expensive.

Amazing!
We love this curriculum in our homeschool. We have only used level 1 so far, but I love how it is broken down by levels of mastery, rather than by grade. This helps me feel like we can take our time to make sure my children understand the concepts before jumping ahead to keep up with grade level. There is no “busy work” in a work book. There are activities to cut out and the child completes them during a lesson which are a hit in our home. I would recommend the app over the white board for letter tiles as the white board can be quite cumbersome and my children cringe when I pull it out, while they think it is more fun to use the a tablet. I have seen amazing success with this program and highly recommend it to other homeschoolers.

Really Seeing Progress!
I was hesitant to try such a pricey program when there were so many cheaper alternatives, but after spinning our wheels with others, we dove into AAR. I started using this program with my 5yo Kindergartner (now a 6yo first grader), and I’m very impressed with the way it is laid out, its thoroughness, and the way that it includes multiple options for games and activities to practice foundational skills.
There is some setup time required for many of the supplemental activities, so be sure to build that in. Many can be re-used once you’ve put in that initial time.
My son can sometimes find it a little boring, but I love the advice to only do 20 minutes at a time and not worry about finishing a “lesson” on a specific timeframe. We’re seeing steady, manageable progress that’s really boosting his reading confidence.

I have used all three levels of All About Reading with a child with severe ADHD and another with reading challenges. I LOVE this curriculum! It is, simply, a well designed curriculum that covers every angle of learning how to read in an engaging and fun manner. In my opinion, you get what you pay for!

Easy to use
I really like this program. We have used Level 1, 2 and are working on Level 3. I love that its easy to use, scripted, and open-and-go. My child has dyslexia (specific learning disorder in reading). She has finally started to read with using this program. I find that each lesson must be slowed down for her though. I can’t get through one “lesson” in one day. I love that the program moved to full colour (when I bought the first level, it was not in colour). It can be a bit frustrating to have lots of little parts (tiles in particular) but they are very helpful and the program would not be the same without them. I love that this program comes with everything you need including the readers. I am using this program with a 10 year old but I think that much beyond 10-12 or so, they might start thinking some of the stories and activities are a bit babyish. Overall I love the program for its ease of use and full colour and many hands on parts. Its much more interesting than any other reading program we tried because its multi-sensory. This program MUST be used with a parent. It is not independent, but learning to read really isn’t an independent task.
